A comment in the Forums made me remember a basic business proposition that I live by, and that I should have applied to Twitter (see previous blog) by now...
If I have to work too hard to get a new proposition... It isn't "it."
By that, I mean that every good deal I've ever done, all the best modules that we've introduced, everything that I've really ever decided to do in business (and probably in life, come to think of it)...
Well, I just knew it. It clicked. It made sense.
Yes, sometimes, if something is a bit more complex, like say SBI! itself, it might take some thought and analysis to understand it. Once you do, though, bingo! It just clicks right into place.
But Twitter is not complex -- it's simple. There are a lot of folks who are awfully excited about Twitter's business applications. And maybe the occasional one actually gets some benefit out of it all. But this feels a lot like "The Madness of Crowds," where folks talk each other into increasing levels of frenzy, forcing that square peg into a round hole.
I just don't see the time-effective business utility of Twitter. And I'm not saying that it's totally useless, just that I have so many better uses for my time during the day.
-----SIDEBAR-----
I make the above "disclaimer" because I'm
amazed at the folks who misinterpret what I've said, when I
say something that does not fit their world. For example, I
don't "hate" blogging, I'm not even "against it." I just
don't feel that it's the right model for most people
starting a small business online.
Here's the actual message...

Despite this, I'm sure that sooner or later, you'll read
that "Ken hates Twitter, apple pie and small children."
-----SIDEBAR-----
I do find Twitter fun. And for me, it's a challenge to get a thought across in 140 characters or less -- that's useful training. So I'll tweet from time to time...
Partly just for the heck of it, and partially because I still want to see if it amounts to anything more than "just fun..."
But when a new strategy seems cloudy and somewhat dubious to you, and it doesn't clear up and fall nicely into place within a short period of time...
It's probably really not a winner.
All the best,
