The other day an SBIer in the SBI! Forums made an interesting observation about the type of posts that I comment on. I've never actually consciously thought about it before. So from now on, he has made me slightly self-conscious when I reply. ;-)
What I do know is that the over-riding consideration as I "graze" is leverage. I never really framed it beyond that, but as I thought about what "leverage" is in this setting (the SBI! Forums), I defined it as a question...
"What can I answer that will be of value, not only to the person to whom I'm replying, but to the most SBIers possible, and hopefully in an important way?"
To test that, I took a look at the posts I've made most recently. These posts have been...
a) Motivational
b) Monetization-related (POD, local biz, finding great products), including posts for 5 Pillar Affiliates (Search It! and LinkedIn) and...
c) Clarifying/pushing certain SBI! topics (long tail keywords, limited value of blog directories).
-----SIDEBAR-----
There are so many SBIers who can answer the tech and
detailed questions far better than me. I truly have never
seen a more generous "help and be helped" group of people as
SBIers, nor such an incredibly talented group of people who
have become the consummate SBIers.
We owe everyone who is a "helper" a huge debt of gratitude.
And I strongly encourage everyone... if you are a "helpee"
now, please become a "helper" as soon as you can, too. It's
what makes these forums so invaluable.
-----SIDEBAR-----
Just to expand on the concept of leverage...
a) Clearly, motivation is important. We all know about the value of perseverance, but it's so easy to forget. I do believe that "not giving up" at whatever you do is the single most important factor for success. It's the center concept of...
I love posts that are well written by SBIers who are experiencing the benefits of perseverance or who are realizing its importance at a whole new level. If I can help others by shining a light on those posts and bringing out the key points, then I'm happy to provide a "mirror" for others to look into.
b) Similarly, monetization is an important topic. There are so many ways to convert traffic into money, including SiteSell's own affiliate program. Most small e-businesses fail because they just simply never drive the traffic needed to monetize. But once you do persevere and accomplish the building of traffic, helping SBIers to think about more and better ways to monetize is also a key "leverage topic."
c) And finally, C
T
P
M is always evolving. Often, it's SBIers who push the envelope. Setting the context, incorporating strong new ideas into the SBI! framework, setting their context so that the right SBIers "get it" at the right time, that's all part of the ongoing development of SBI!.
All in all, it comes down to leveraging...
These SBI! Forums are an absolute wealth of information. The only problem with most good forums is that so much goes on that it's easy to miss "the good stuff." And future generations definitely miss it as it gets buried in "the new stuff."
But between the outstanding job done by the moderators (volunteers to whom we owe the biggest thank you of all!) and the SiteSell Content Team, we manage to keep the posts all organized and excerpt the best into HQ articles. They pass me proposed pearls, too, and I graze the feeds in between projects during the day, and post on the ones that offer the most leverage.
My hope is that the SBI! Forums help as many SBIers to succeed, to the greatest extent, as possible.
That is the bottom line, after all.
All the best,
