Doing It Smarter
I was asked this question a while back in a teleseminar...
Is it harder to be successful on the Net today than it was a few years ago?
A successful Web site is every bit as possible to achieve today as it was in the past.
The key is doing it smarter, with good upfront research.
The Web has indeed become a more competitive place with more Web sites, but that also means there is more Demand, too. With Site Build It!...
1) You compete against an increasing number of small businesses who don't know what they're doing (including professionally Webmastered ones, most of the time).
2) You are rewarded by Search Engines, which only get smarter at recognizing quality content and a "keep it real" approach that focuses on delighting the visitor.
3) The criteria for Supply and Demand, if followed correctly, should still help you find a niche that's at a winnable and rewarding level.
What do I mean by that? Well, let's take travel as an example...
Ten years ago, you might have been able to build a Top 10 business site for "travel." But then again, there weren't that many people on the Web, nor that many advertisers or other businesses who would pay for your traffic. Nowadays "travel" is not winnable, but then again... your DAY 2-3 research (with Brainstorm It!'s help) would show you not to even try.
So you sub-niche. Of course, there are many ways to do this, but let's use geography to keep this example simple...
Five years ago, you might have been able to create a Top 10 business for "Caribbean." Smaller niche, but there were more people searching online and more ways to monetize. That would be hard to do nowadays ("win" for the entire Caribbean).
Instead... you do it smarter and further narrow down your niche. These days you can build a Top 10 business for "Anguilla" (an island in the Caribbean). There are way more people online and searching for all kinds of stuff. As a matter of fact, there may be as many people searching for "Anguilla" (anguilla-beaches.com is found for over 20,000 related keywords) as there were searching for Caribbean-related keywords 5 years ago.
Bottom line?
A successful business on the Net is just as do-able as it was 10 and 5 years ago. Build it "smart" and free targeted traffic will find you. Start by picking the right niche (Demand and Supply, number of good keywords, passion, etc.) and then follow the Content

Monetize process as outlined in the Action Guide.
All the best,
