When They Are Ready

Ken's Blog

I tweeted a few days ago about how one will never "get" SBI! until one is ready for its message. I learned that from my own sister and brother-in-law, in vivid technicolor, the day before.

My sister is a brilliant woman, a sensational under-achiever by my standards, but by her and her husband's standards very happy living a simpler life. They both work in Customer Support for a major airline. Her husband has this amazing hobby and knowledge that would absolutely, I am 100% sure, be making them at least $100K per year within 2-3 years (depending on how much time they devote to it).

Every year for the past 10 years, I have told them about SBI!. Every year, it was like talking to a wall with glazed eyes...

Well, this past week, her husband was asked to account for 6 minutes that they could not account for on their computers! 6 minutes, can you believe it?

He had decided to take early retirement ASAP (in 6 months).

So, I went again into my SBI! talk. This time, they listened. We switched over to video-skype and I could see the intensity in their eyes as I talked more about how they could use SBI!.

In about an hour, using video-skype and screen capture, I showed them how to brainstorm their niche, what their site keywords should be, what topics they'd write about, how they would monetize (services, product sales, high-value auctions, ads).

What a difference.

I exported the keyword list and left them with 3 short instructions, truly expecting never again to hear about it from them (intensity often wanes). Well, this time, within 30 minutes...

  • they had joined the 5P Program, which enables them to...
  • buy two versions of the domain, hyphenated and non-hyphenated, at NPI!
  • they were studying the Action Guide.

I now get a daily e-mail with excitement that you just can't fake.

The point is... they weren't ready until now.

So what happens with the "readiness" factor at the opposite end of the age spectrum?...

University kids are focused on other things. You truly have to have an exceptionally-tuned mindset at that age to realize that SBI! could, at the very minimum, be an incredible "fallback" (like anguilla-beaches.com is for Nori) for anything else you try in life. At a maximum, you can also take SBI! and leverage it into a multi-million dollar business if you know how to outsource -- there's no limit to where the snowball could go (it gets easier and easier to snowball as you grow).

Friends' reactions? Most are not on this wavelength at all. They simply are nowhere near thinking like this yet. The irony is that, given the time they spend on the computer, their complete ease with it, they should be the ones who get it first.

THAT is the power of mindset.

Fast-forward to those in their mid-20s. I always say that until people spend a few years bouncing around in cubicles, bosses overworking you, companies trying to fit square pegs into round holes, political games and on and on and on... until you've been bruised a few times, until financial pressures start to show up, you don't begin to ask...

"Is there a better way than this?"

Most people will never be the type of "entrepreneurs" who start their own companies with an idea for a product, employees, manufacturing and warehousing, etc., etc. Online is the obvious direction for simple, 1-person entrepreneurship.

But most people in their 20s and young 30s figure they'll never die and that there's a long time ahead to "make it" (with no actual plan on how to get there).

Next stage?...

The 35-44 age bracket is where people start getting serious about their lives. Despite what you think about your friends, colleagues and neighbors, most are in what I call "it's-not-what-it-seems-to-be-mode."

Our 3-decade friend and family lawyer tells me that most of his clients, who seem very well-off (big house and car, expensive vacations, etc.) are not more than 1-2 paychecks away from disaster, with a mortgage they can barely meet and a variety of crazy expenses. If the major breadwinner dies, the family moves to instant poverty.

None of which should surprise anyone if you know some basic numbers. For example, until the recession hit, the U.S. savings rate was minus 3%. Minus!

People live way beyond their means, incur debt, get beat up at work, and all it takes is a few more years to realize...

"That's it? This is life?"

Most never ask that question. And if you think things are bad now, they are going to be terrible when the majority boomers move into their late 60s with not enough money to live on. Old age pension? I don't know where the government of any country will get the money to fund that Ponzi scheme.

All of these dynamics are under the surface when some find SBI!. If the message resonates with you, you were already asking yourself the right questions, either consciously or strongly subconsciously. When it resonates with you, the SBI! site speaks directly to you and your future.

And then you ask your friends/family. Feedback is often negative. Why? You are opening painful doors and most folks are not at this stage yet, will never be there in all probability.

Some people just don't get the SBI! message. For whatever reason, they're just not ready to hear it, let alone do anything about it. Their eyes will  tell you "nobody's home"... nobody's listening.

Some start to realize it. Some start to do something about it because the past is the past and there's still a lot of future left, but you no longer feel that life is forever.

And any parent who realizes this owes it to their children to teach this lesson instead of making them learn it the hard way, too.

All the best,
