Monetization.
- "How can I use this on my website, for my visitors?" Think hard on that question. Quick, smart answers only tend to pop into your head after a lot of hard thought.
- You make as much or more as your efforts deserve.
- Income (and effort) depends on your goals. Perhaps you want to replace a full time salary (and make it grow) or supplement family income for a summer vacation and/or save for college for the kids....
- Entrepreneurs work for much less than minimal wage at the beginning, and then make more as time goes on.
- Work hard, but also work smart. Adjust your way of working when it makes sense.
- You can only make as much as your niche will "allow." Therefore, it's important to do thorough research in order to fully understand its potential profitability.
- Content, content, content! Become an expert in your niche.
- Be creative. One good monetization idea can make a huge difference to your bottom line.
- To really jump to the next level, outsource mundane tasks when you're making enough money to do so. This can free up business-building time.
- Personal life situations play a big role in how much income you make from your site. Are you able to run your site as a full time business, or is it a part-time infopreneurial effort?
- Even if you are running your site as a part-time business, be aware of the time you spend on your site, and learn to focus your energies. If you want to make this your business, then treat it like a real business, and always follow through.
- Self-confidence, belief in yourself, patience, and perseverance are critical attributes for success online.
- Keep it real. Add value. It's not about you. Be your customers' solution and they will help you meet your monetization goals.
- Diversify your income streams!
- Look at your topic creatively. For example, perhaps you could offer a self-study guide or course. Such a guide or course could be perceived to have more value by your visitors.
- Stay current with the needs and trends of your target group. Offer solutions that they are looking for.
- You make the amount dictated by the unique blend of all the previous lessons that you can and want to apply.
One final take-home lesson...
Monetization is mostly about inclination (how much are you willing to find and build new models?), motivation (even if you're willing, it can take some courage) and circumstances (some folks need the income desperately, others are happy with lesser amounts of passive income).
Folks who figure out monetizing (i.e., who graduate beyond AdSense and affiliate programs) are the ones who start thinking about active ways of making money, rather than just the more passive, infopreneurial ones. (Of course, there is nothing wrong with the passive ones. Depending on your niche and your inclination, they can do very well for you.)
