Why Tweaking Pages Can Hurt Your Online Business Success

How to Build an E-Business

Tweaking is a low-yield exercise that can damage your online business success.

Avoid falling into the trap of adjusting and tweaking your web pages to improve Search Engine (SE) rankings. Tweaking refers to the process of repeated re-working of keyword density and the placement of keywords in the various parts of a Web page to rank more highly at the engines.

It’s not worth your time to try and manipulate the SEs. This exercise is an attempt to "fake reality," and it’s getting more and more complicated for Search Engine Optimizers (SEOers). It’s simply not possible to stay ahead of the smartest minds at the big Search Engines.

Search Engines are getting better and better at recognizing reality, and SEOers are kidding themselves if they think their tricks are what SEs really want.

Instead, stay ahead of the SEOers... Keep it real.

Always be realistic. You will not rank in the #1 position for every keyword, at every search engine.

SEs are businesses, and they want happy customers (searchers) who find what they seek. And that is relevant, quality content, not Search Engine optimized pages.

The real customers of the Search Engines are the advertisers. More traffic delivers betters results for the advertisers. Pleased advertisers buy more ad space, and thus the Search Engines earn more income.

Happy customers return to the SEs more often, do more searches, and click more ads, thus the SE makes more money.

SEOers do not "keep it real." That threatens results delivered by Search Engines. So SEs fight hard to defeat SEOers and protect the WIN-WIN-WIN that delivers such tremendous profits for Search Engines.

The Web is becoming more and more complicated, and the SEs are getting better at working out "what is real" and "what is SEO." The result is that SEOers find it harder and harder playing the game of "Match the Algorithm."

Quick summary on how to "keep it real"…

  1. Build relevant and high-value content that delivers what humans want.
  2. Get the on-page criteria just right. Create more quality content.
  3. Focus on building off-page criteria naturally, again by "keeping it real."

Bottom line? Let your competitors waste their time on a variety of traffic-building chores, many of them off-focus (hours wasted on reading SEO ezines alone!), while you methodically spend all of your time growing your online business success.
