Reach for the Top With Universal Search

Traffic Generation

With Google's "Universal Search," the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) blend together results from Web page search, blog search, news search, image search, video search, book search and local search.

Each of these special searches are known as doing "vertical search." However, not many people actually used these special searches so Google now blends them into its general, "front door" results to give the best search experience possible.

Expect (over time) a progressive extension, using more of a certain vertical when a search seems to be asking for it (ex., local) and more of another one when a search is asking for something else (ex., "pictures of something").

3 Tips for Best Site Design

Content & Article Writing

The best site design for your online business is a natural outcome when you follow these 3 tips...

1) Limit your color palette.

The use of too many color families is a tell-tale sign of an amateur. We amateurs love to snazz it up! But it distracts the visitor and "feels amateurish." So pick two to three complimentary colors.

Use a splash of color (spot color) for extreme accent points. Experiment with colorful elements within your site photos and other graphics. But limit the colors in the underlying images and background that make up your L&F.

The same holds true for font coloring.

Does Your L&F Get the Monetizing Click?

Content & Article Writing

The Look & Feel ("L&F") reflects the theme and sets the tone for your website, connecting with your reader at a quick, subconscious level. However, your content is what ultimately wins or loses your visitor's confidence and trust. And that's what gets the monetizing click!

In short... bad L&F loses visitors quickly. They won't give you the benefit of the doubt and wait even a few seconds to see what you have to say.

You never get a second chance to make a good first impression!

Is This Your First Day?

Ken's Blog

We launched a new SiteSell Facebook contest today, inspired by the powerful message of "SBI!: A New Day" video and the real life stories over at the "first day of the rest of your life" landing page.

We all have goals and dreams. They come included, free, as part of the human condition.

Somehow, though, the urgencies of day-to-day life keep taking priority. Your dream? You keep pushing it to "tomorrow."

For far too many, "tomorrow" never comes.

How to Get Noticed by Google Quickly

Ken's Blog

We've long known that RSS accelerates the distribution of new pages on your websites to the Search Engines. Googlebot "knows" that blogs are more "temporal" so are fast-off-the-mark to list and rank them.

---SIDEBAR---
For SBIers...

Your Blog It! page gets indexed and ranked
sooner (and/or higher) than your actual
content page (hours), although over time that
situation reverses. After days to weeks or
longer (all depending), the Blog It! page
disappears from the ranking and the content
page finds it spot in the main ("universal")
rankings for a long time.
---SIDEBAR---

Well, posting about a new page on your site in Facebook can help get you noticed by Google sooner, too. For example, my daughter Nori put up a content page about horseback riding in Anguilla the other day...

Is This the "First Day of the Rest of Your Life"?

How To Build an E-Business

Envision the "first day of the rest of your life". Now think about what you need to do to get to that "first" day. More than likely, money plays an important role. Building your own e-business is one of the best ways to harness the Net's vast potential and achieve financial freedom.

One word of caution though...

If your driving goal is purely to "get rich," your focus is automatically upon yourself. And that's a soft foundation for any business to build upon. Instead...

How I Lost My Virginity Online

Well...

I knew THAT headline would grab your attention.  ;-)

This is about Google and Facebook, not porn. Sorry.  ;-)

Actually, it's about the dynamics of small companies that grow out of ideals, ideals that get lost somewhere along the course of growth and the quest for ever-greater profits. Google and Facebook, the two most successful online companies, merely serve as examples.

First, Google.

I remember when Google announced that they were adding a "Go To Google" link to every AdSense Ad.

Just like that. On every ad, every person earning income through AdSense was GIVING a very visible link back to Google's search engine.

GIVING. As in... no payment for the link back to them.

Google was cutting down each visitor's exploration of your site. An example...

Want to Sell a Product? Focus on Its Benefits

Monetization

Many businesses that sell a product (or service) mistake its "features" for "benefits" over and over again. Why? Because they design features into the product. They don't, however, experience the benefits... customers do.

And the customers want the benefits, not the features. You know the old saying..."Customers don't want quarter-inch drill bits... they want quarter-inch holes."

So you must deliver benefits, not features. Don't confuse the two on your sales page.
