Keyword Research
Getting an idea is extremely hard... when you are trying to get an idea. As a matter of fact, it's amazing how your mind goes blank when you just sit there and try to get an idea.
Most people aren't used to getting ideas, at least not ideas at a life-changing level. When they do get one, they fall in love with the idea, sure that this baby is the only one they'll ever get.
It's not. Pros quickly develop techniques to generate tons and tons of ideas, and then sort them out.
Ask yourself... wherever you are... whatever you hear or see or do...
"How could I develop this idea into a theme-based content site?"
Sometimes all you need is a little stimulation to get your creative juices flowing. For example, a visit to thesaurus.reference.com might just trigger some great ideas. Simply enter a word and see which categories and additional words come up. Scan through the lists and pick the words that fit. This type of keyword research could point you in a whole new direction for your website.
When all is said and done, horrible ideas don't make it out of the space between your ears. The reasonable ones deserve a little concept elaboration.
In other words... you put more energy into good ideas. The better they become as you work them, the more you put into them.
Bottom line?
Every now and then, we all need a little creative whack on the side of the head to get us going. That whack will either give you a great idea for an excellent online business based on something you know and love, or one of those words will stimulate you to think of a potential niche. (SBI! owners use Brainstorm It! as their creative whack for doing keyword research.)
Once you know that you can generate lots of ideas, you become more relaxed and that's when your imagination really soars!
